When our paths crossed in 2012, Rich was a free-spirited traveling yogi who journeyed far and wide on his trusty bike. Nora was always an entrepreneur at heart.
In 2016 we founded what is now known as Chi Yoga Shack. Originally named Shiva Shack, the studio is a haven where the art of yoga is tailored to the rhythm of the day rather than strict levels, and where each class reflects the unique style and spirit of the instructor leading it.
Chi Yoga Shack is a fusion of our passions for art, yoga, music and bodywork. The community operates on one simple rule: “You have to have a good attitude.”
Our mission is to bring you closer to you.
Rich & Nora
Chi Yoga Shack is a small, family-owned yoga studio at 1942 N. Leavitt St. in Bucktown, Chicago, close to Wicker Park and Logan Square. We teach vinyasa, Ashtanga, candlelight yin, a restorative sound bath, breathwork, hatha yoga and meditation and family yoga, and Rich offers Thai bodywork.
Many of our classes are beginner-friendly. Wear comfortable clothes and bring a water bottle. Mats are available to borrow at no charge, so you really can just show up. Plan to arrive 10 to 15 minutes before class so you have time to settle in and introduce yourself to your teacher.
If you're unsure, ask us. We're happy to help you choose. There is no wrong place to begin.

For active bodies, tight bodies, stressed bodies, and anyone who could use some help feeling better in theirs.
Bodywork, aka “lazy person's yoga”, is rooted in traditional Thai bodywork. You stay fully clothed while Rich works with your body on a comfortable floor mat, helping create space in areas that feel tight, restricted or overworked. Think of it as having someone do the yoga for you.
