Gentle yoga in Bucktown, ChicagoSlow flow, long holds and a steady breath.

Gentle Yoga combines the deep release of yin poses with the fluidity of slow-flow vinyasa, plus some core strengthening. The pace is unhurried, and every movement is connected to the breath.

What to expect

Monica Brown has taught Hatha Yoga since 2002, when she certified through the Temple of Kriya Yoga. Her teaching starts from the idea that the breath is often the first place we lose connection with the body, and also the way back to it.

It's a good fit if you're new, stiff, coming back after time off, or you'd simply like a quieter class.

Frequently asked questions

Is gentle yoga good if my back hurts?
A slow class is often a good place to start. If the pain is sharp or new, check with your doctor first, and tell Monica before class so she can offer options.
Do I need to be flexible?
No. The class meets you where you are, and you can rest whenever you need to.
What should I bring?
Comfortable clothes and a water bottle. Mats are available to borrow at no charge, so you can just show up. Plan to arrive 10 to 15 minutes early to settle in and say hello to your teacher.
How much does it cost?
Drop-in $30. Class packs and memberships cover it, and new students can try it with the Discovery Pass: 14 days of unlimited yoga for $79.
