Vinyasa yoga in Bucktown, ChicagoThe art of movement with breath.

Vinyasa links each movement to a breath. A class moves through sun salutations, standing poses and inversions, with your attention on the breath and on alignment, and ends with a guided relaxation and meditation.

What to expect

Every vinyasa class at the Shack is open to all levels. Teachers offer modifications and variations, so someone on their first day and someone who has practiced for years can share the room. Each teacher brings their own style, so it's worth trying a few.

One Hour for Soul Power is a midday vinyasa built around joint alignment. You stack feet, knees, hips, torso and head, then add breath-led movement through the torso and limbs. People come to it for a clear head and a reset in the middle of the day.

“Rich is the best yoga instructor I have worked with!!! More than just an exercise for your body, your mind and spirit as well.”

Frequently asked questions

Is vinyasa good for beginners?
Yes. Every vinyasa class here is open to all levels, and the teacher offers easier and harder versions of the poses. If you'd like to learn the basics first, the Intro to Yoga series is a good place to start.
How is vinyasa different from Ashtanga?
Ashtanga follows the same set sequence of poses every time. Vinyasa classes change from class to class and from teacher to teacher.
What should I bring?
Comfortable clothes and a water bottle. Mats are available to borrow at no charge, so you can just show up. Plan to arrive 10 to 15 minutes early to settle in and say hello to your teacher.
How much does it cost?
Drop-in $30. Class packs and memberships cover it, and new students can try it with the Discovery Pass: 14 days of unlimited yoga for $79.

New to the Shack?
